Course topics include: multi-dimensional arrays, searching, sorting, simple data structures such as linked-lists, stacks, and queues and applications development. JAVA will be the language used to implement all programming. The intent is not to teach JAVA programming, but to present the course topics using Java as a tool. Applications will be developed using integrated programming concepts learned.
Textbook: Deitel & Deitel, Java How to Program, 5th Edition, Prentice Hall.
Recommended environment: Bluej (down load from www.bluej.org.). Download and install JAVA first, then download and install Bluej.
POLICIES
Students are responsible for all announcements and assignments made in class or on the web site. I do not take class attendance, but make sure to get notes from a missed lecture from another student.
Students with disabilities who believe that they may need accommodations in this class are encouraged to contact the counselor working with disabilities at 770-528-7226 as soon as possible to better ensure that such accommodations are implemented in a timely fashion.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
The textbook, notes and class discussions will be the basis for all assignments. After topics for a class
period have been introduced, there will be a closed lab to implement the new concepts.GRADING POLICY
The grading scale will be as follows:
> = 90 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60 - 69 D
< = 59 F
Assignments:
4-5 programs + final for IT 1124 Students
4-5 programs for 70% of grade and 30% for a
research paper for IT 5113 Students only
Programming Assignments will be graded as follows:
50% for correct output
30% for required documentation
20% for program structure and effective use of language
Research Paper will be graded as follows:
70% Content and Format
30% English and correct grammar usage.
Research Paper Specifications (for IT5113 only):
Minimum of 10 pages
ACM citation style
Minimum of 8 references
